It’s happening! On 17, 18 and 19 September the historic courtyards or ‘hofjes’ of Leiden will once again be hosting musicians and audiences for a new edition of the Hofjesconcerts. The early bird sale for this unique event has started, the full programme is due very soon.

On the evening of Friday 17 September the official opening night will take place in the beautiful Hartebrugkerk, starting at 20:15h. This evening’s programme is ‘An Homage to American Music,’ which was first organised to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims leaving Leiden and sailing the Mayflower to America. The concert was initially postponed but will now really happen, both for a live audience and as an online livestream to be seen around the world.

The opening concert will be a tribute to American composers such as Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Duke Ellington. ‘An Homage to American Music’ will be performed by The Peter Beets and Henk Meutgeert New Jazz Orchestra with conductor Henk Meutgeert and by The Practicum Musicae Orchestrae with conductor Aafko Boonstra. Both orchestras will be performing parts of Pjotr Iljitsj Tsjaikovski’s Nutcracker Suite, Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin and many more unforgettable pieces of music.

On 18 and 19 september, many of Leiden’s historic ‘hofjes’ will be venues for a diverse music programme. Day passes for both days are available now.

With regards to public health and safety measures, attendance is only possible with proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test of under 24 hours old.
